it was interesting to be OF the media and not IN the media this year for voltage. it gave me a new perspective of the whole "goings on" of a show like this since last year i was backstage the entire time working with my models and preparing them to go onstage and i missed out on all the actual performances of the bands and all the models on the catwalk. this time i got to see the whole thing as a spectator and a photographer and i'm glad for that experience! sadly, tho, i was not given a press pass like the other photographers had around their necks. maybe i missed where i was supposed to get one of those? but i was in the back of the seated section (very nice to have a seat!) but all the male photographers were right at the end of the catwalk and so they had the ultimate place to take photos because that is where all the models would stop and pose. so i just did the best i could from my seat, but my flash wasn't powerful enough to reach all the way to the stage from where i was. so take this as a more "impressionistic" view of the energy of the show as a whole, rather than an exact detailed documentation of the clothing or bands. you can get more of a feel of the movement, colour, and grandeur of the entire night. more emphasis on the "voltage amplified" part of the show than the "fashion" ha :) the clothing was beautiful!
i could see a lot of influence of early vivienne westwood and malcom mcclaren. also john galliano in many of the pieces. you can see how we were all packed in like sardines! the place was at capacity i'm sure! i sure do wish i could have gotten close up pix of the very elaborate pieces! everything went fast and furious and was exhilarating! there was one time i had the guts to quickly walk up to the side of the catwalk, and i snapped a few pix (but i didn't want to get in the way of the people who were seated so i quickly returned to my seat). and the photographers and i had the fun game of "you take a photo of me while i take a photo of you" :) i also could not get backstage in order to tell any of the designers that i wanted to interview them via email or phone later on so that i could include an interview with them along with photos of their creations. so if any of the designers find this page and read this and would like to be interviewed (or have a website you wish me to link to or if there is anything you want the world to know about you, please just tell me and i'll put it up on this page and also put your name under the photos here of your work!), just email at:
